Redesign Any Room in 30 Seconds Using Claude and Google Gemini

My second bedroom looked like a storage unit with a bed in it. I redesigned it in 30 seconds using Claude and a free Google API.

No designer. No mood boards. One skill file and a photo.

Interior Design Costs £500 to £5,000. This Costs Nothing.

A decent interior designer charges at least £500. A good one charges £5,000+.

Either way, you spend weeks explaining your aesthetic to a stranger, iterating on PDF mood boards, and hoping the final concept lands somewhere near what you had in your head.

Claude and Gemini skip all of it and return multiple design concepts in 30 seconds, for free.

The Stack: Claude + Google Gemini

Three pieces:

  1. Claude Code (the AI coding CLI)
  2. Google AI Studio (free API access to Google Gemini's image generation)
  3. A GitHub skill that teaches Claude to write optimized Gemini prompts

The skill converts your rough description ("make it modern and clean") into a Gemini prompt that produces real results. You describe the room; Claude handles the prompt engineering.

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Get Your Google AI Studio API Key

Go to Google AI Studio and generate a free API key.

This gives you access to Google Gemini, Google's flagship image generation model.

No credit card. Sign in with Google and grab the key.

2. Download the Claude Skill from GitHub

Find a skill that teaches Claude to write Google Gemini prompts.

A few options:

Look for skills that specifically mention Google Gemini or Google AI Studio integration.

Clone it into your Claude Code workspace:

git clone
3. Upload a Photo of Your Room

Take a photo of the room you want to redesign. Capture:

  • The full layout (bed, desk, storage)
  • Natural lighting from windows
  • Current furniture and decor

Upload it to Claude Code.

4. Tell Claude What You Want

Be specific. The more detail you give, the better the output.

Example prompt:

"Redesign this bedroom with a modern minimalist aesthetic. Keep the bed and wardrobe, but change the wall color to light grey, swap the bedding for solid white, and add warm accent lighting. I like clean lines and natural textures. Remove the clutter."

Claude analyzes the photo, builds a Gemini prompt from your description, calls the API, and returns multiple design concepts in different colors, layouts, and furniture arrangements.

5. Iterate Until You Love It

Don't like the result? Tell Claude to change it.

Examples:

  • "Make the walls darker"
  • "Add a plant in the corner"
  • "Put my bikes back in the shot"
  • "Try a warmer color palette"

New concepts come back in seconds.

Traditional vs. AI-Assisted Interior Design

Traditional interior design:

  • £500–£5,000+ cost
  • Weeks of back-and-forth
  • Limited to one designer's vision
  • Hard to iterate quickly

Claude + Google Gemini:

  • Free (Google AI Studio has a generous free tier)
  • 30 seconds per concept
  • Unlimited variations
  • You control the direction

What You Can Redesign

Bedrooms are the obvious starting point. The workflow works just as well for:

  • Home offices (cable management, lighting, desk layouts)
  • Living rooms (furniture arrangement, color schemes)
  • Kitchens (cabinet colors, backsplash ideas)
  • Outdoor spaces (garden layouts, patio designs)

Photograph it and you can redesign it.

What the AI Can't Do (Yet)

The output is conceptual, not a shopping list.

You'll still need to:

  • Source the actual furniture (IKEA, Wayfair, Facebook Marketplace)
  • Hire painters or contractors for wall changes
  • Measure before buying

The design direction is settled, which is 80% of the work.

Quick Wins You Can Do Today

Even if you skip the full redesign, Claude and Gemini can help with:

  1. Wall color selection → generate 10 palette options in one go
  2. Furniture arrangement → see whether your desk works better on the opposite wall
  3. Lighting ideas → visualize LED strips, lamps, or accent lighting before buying
  4. Declutter motivation → seeing the after version makes it easier to start

Interior designers built their business on access to tools and knowledge you didn't have. Now you have both.

Take a photo of the room that's been bothering you. Run it through this workflow. You'll have five design directions before the kettle boils.

And if you want the exact prompts I use to get the best results, reply "DESIGN" and I'll send them over.

Or do what I did: take a photo of your second bedroom and see what comes back.
