AI Hacks Day 28 — Skills

Day 28 · Skills

Your AI is running the free version of your brain

Most people type into a blank Claude box and hope. There is a whole open directory of skills you can bolt on in one command, and the right one makes Claude work like it already knows your job.

Here is the site, the one skill worth installing first, and the thirty-second safety check almost everyone skips.

Quick one from me. You can set this up yourself in about ten minutes. If you would rather have Claude or Cursor wired up properly, with the right skills installed and checked first, reply to this email or DM me SKILLS and I will sort it.

The site

skills.sh is an open directory of agent skills: reusable capabilities you install into your AI. Thousands of them, growing weekly. Coding, research, writing, security, and more. It works across Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and other agents, and you add any of them with one command.

Hack 1: the one skill to install first

The most-installed skill on the whole site is find-skills, sitting around 1.9 million installs. It does the hard part for you. Instead of guessing which skill you need, you tell Claude the task in plain English and it hands you the skill that fits that exact job.

From then on you describe what you are trying to build, and find-skills points you to the right skill instead of leaving you to dig through the directory.

Hack 2: the security check almost nobody runs

Here is the part people skip. A skill is instructions, and sometimes code, that you hand straight to your AI. Installing one off GitHub without looking is the same as pasting a stranger's code into your terminal and pressing enter.

skills.sh has a security audit page that pulls results from Gen Agent Trust Hub, Socket, and Snyk, then labels every skill so you can see what you are about to trust:

SAFE ALERTS HIGH RISK CRITICAL

Read the label before you paste anything into Claude. The audit page lives at skills.sh/audits.

Find it, check it, install it

1
FIND

Use find-skills. Tell Claude the job, get the right skill back.

2
CHECK

Look the skill up on the audit page first. Install the SAFE ones, walk away from the rest.

3
INSTALL

Run the one command from above. That is the whole job.

Run it in this order and Claude works like it studied your job before you opened the chat.

Before you install anything

A skill can run instructions or code inside your setup. The audit step is not optional. Unverified skills off GitHub can be malicious.

skills.sh is an open, community ecosystem. The audits help, but sanity-check a skill yourself before you give it access.

Install counts move around over time. The durable point: find-skills is the one to start with.

One directory. One skill. One safety check.

Find the skill, check it is safe, install it. That puts you ahead of everyone still typing into a blank box. If you want this built around your own stack, reply to this email or DM me SKILLS and I will set it up with you.
