* AI HACKS / DAY 22 / KEYWORD: LAW

A 4-person team beat an AmLaw 200 firm. Here's the tool that did it.

You commented LAW, so here's all of it. The legal launch, the case that proves it, the install links, and the part most people skip: the exact move you make in your own business.

Read this first

If you're already thinking "what's the version of this for MY business," that's the right question. It's what I build: the AI tool or stack that gives your small team the firepower of a much bigger one. Reply to this email or DM me LAW and I'll tell you where the leverage is in your space.

01 What launched

Claude for Legal. 12 May 2026.

Anthropic shipped a full legal suite. Three pieces that matter:

12 practice-area plugins. M&A, litigation, employment, IP, privacy, AI governance, and more. Each one runs a setup interview that learns your playbook before it touches a document.
20+ MCP connectors into the tools firms already run on: Westlaw via Thomson Reuters CoCounsel, Harvey, DocuSign, Everlaw, iManage, LexisNexis.
Microsoft 365 built in. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Context carries across all four, so a redline in Word doesn't get re-explained in the cover note.

Firms were live on day one. Freshfields went firmwide. Quinn Emanuel, Holland & Knight, and Crosby Legal were in from the start. Hanson Bridgett went all-in shortly after.

02 The case that proves it

A paralegal on a 4-person pro bono team represented an elder-abuse victim against an AmLaw 200 firm. He built a tool on Claude's API that sat at counsel's table during trial, surfacing cross-examination angles in real time. Sometimes before opposing counsel finished the question.

Four people and one tool beat a firm with hundreds. They won a large jury verdict.

03 Why this matters past law

A solo lawyer now has the firepower of a 50-person research team.
Roughly 80% of civil litigants show up with no lawyer. Anthropic paired the launch with access-to-justice partners like Free Law Project and Courtroom5 so legal aid gets it.
The firm of 2027 isn't 500 associates in a tower. It's about 12 people and an AI stack.

04 The install links

The plugins are open source, Apache 2.0. They install as a suite in Claude Code or Claude Cowork.

On Claude Code: /plugin marketplace add the repo, install the plugin that fits your work, restart, run setup. Full steps in QUICKSTART.

05 The operator translation

This is the part for everyone who isn't a lawyer. Which is most of you.

1
See the pattern. Incumbent advantage is two things: size, and access to expensive tools. AI collapses both at once.
2
Find your trial tool. Ask one question: what's the one repetitive, expertise-heavy task where a tool built on Claude would let your small team punch way above its weight? Speed, research, drafting, qualifying, triaging. That's your version of the courtroom tool.
3
Build it first. You don't need 500 people. You need the tool, and you need to be the one who builds it before your competitor does.

Your move

The lesson isn't about law. It's that a tiny team plus one AI tool now beats a giant. Your industry is next. The ones who build win. If you want the version of this built for your space, the tool that gives your team the unfair advantage, reply to this email or DM me LAW. That's what I do.
